与牛津预录取相比，我始终认为剑桥的预录取更加特立独行，从而更具神秘色彩。为什么这么说呢？一切皆因为剑桥预录取中“winter pool”设计！

元旦过后就有家长陆续咨询欧美新导航：剑桥预录取每年什么时候公布啊?截止日期什么呢？我当时的回复是：1月初开始，预录取会持续到1月底结束！

有确切的时间吗？答案是：没有！不是我们不去了解，而是连剑桥大学的各学院都无法给你确切的回答！

那么，让我们来看看剑桥大学官网的原文说明吧：

Dates and deadlines 2016-2017

1、Early January: Winter pool takes place and decisions posted to applicants. A small number of applicants may be asked to attend a further interview.

2、End January: Final decisions to pooled applicants. Most applicants who were interviewed in December should have heard whether they have been accepted conditionally or unconditionally, or have been unsuccessful before the end of January.

1、1月初：剑桥大学预录取的“winter pool”机制启动，同时预录取结果出来并邮件发送给申请考生；少量首轮被淘汰的申请考生被放入“winter pool”再次获得机会，但可能需要接受进一步的面试。

2、1月底：通过“winter pool”再次获得机会的申请者，其最终结果公布，1月底，不管结果如何，你都会获知结果。对绝大多数12月就参加剑桥面试的申请考生来说，在1月底的时候，都非常清楚自己是获得无条件录取或有条件录取或完全被拒绝了。

       看到这里，估计很多学生家长会对“winter pool”一脸茫然：这东东到底什么啊？

       剑桥大学官网，对“winter pool”原文说明是：

The pools

The "winter pool" is designed to ensure that the best applicants who have been squeezed out by the competition at their original College are offered places – Colleges would rather admit a strong applicant from the pool than a weaker applicant who applied directly/was allocated to them.

Although impressed by your application, your College may not have a place for you so may pool your application for other Colleges to consider.

Some pooled applicants may be asked to attend another interview in early January. When all pooled applications have been reviewed, you may be offered a place by a different College. If no College can offer you a place, your original College will advise you of this decision by the end of January.

1、“winter pool”你就把它理解为“冬季池子”好了；

2、这个池子拿来做什么呢？“放”人的，“放”申请剑桥的考生的。是不是很残酷啊？想想都浑身发抖！

3、“放”哪些申请考生呢？“放”申请剑桥第一志愿学院失败，被淘汰出局的考生。

4、为什么要这么做呢？虽然该考生申请这个剑桥学院被淘汰了，但他还是非常优秀的，完全有可能比申请剑桥其他学院的考生优秀很多。这样的人才流失太可惜了，把他“放”到“winter pool”，再给他机会吧。

6、被纳入“winter pool”的申请考生，可能在1月初要再次接受剑桥面试，经过再次竞争，你有可能获得剑桥其他学院的预录取。如果所有的剑桥学院，没有一个愿意预录取你，则由申请考生当初申请的第一志愿学院告知你最终情况。这就是学院负责制，哪个学院录取你，就哪一个学院发预录取给你；所有学院都不预录取你，则由你最初申请的那个学院告知你。这就是尊重，不管结果如何，总会知情权。

7、那么有多少人被纳入“winter pool”？答案是20%。那么纳入“winter pool”的申请考生有多大概率获得预录呢？答案是25%。一句话，虽然机会不高，但是有总没有好！
