MAT，全称是Mathematics Admissions Test，是报考牛津大学数学专业或数学相关专业考生需要参加的附加考试。

与PAT附加考试一样，牛津大学之所以要设立MAT考试就是因为报考数学或者数学相关专业的考生太多了。在无法用A-Level成绩来筛选学生的情况下，需要一个新的标准来衡量该申请者是否适合到牛津学习，因此MAT考试产生。用MAT官方网站的原话来说就是“We cannot interview all applicants in the time available, so we shortlist a proportion (still much larger than the number of places available).We use the information from the test (the total score, and how it is made up) together with all the details of your UCAS application and information about school background to decide who to shortlist。”从原话中可以看出，申请的考生能否进入到“shortlist”与该考生的MAT成绩有很大关系。

二、MAT考试的知识范围？

用MAT官网的原话说就是“The mathematical knowledge and techniques required to do the questions are taken from a syllabus roughly corresponding to the C1 and C2 modules from A-level maths, though the questions are set more variously than A-level questions。”简而言之就是：考试内容与Edexcel 数学的C1、C2模块的教学大纲相应一致，只是试卷出题模式和A-Level卷子不同。

三、MAT考题类型与模式？

MAT试卷分为选择题和解答题两大类。

第一大类为选择题，共10个选择题，每题4分，共计40分。2007—2013年的MAT试卷，其选择题是4个选项，但是从2014年开始，选择题是5个选项。

第二类为解答题（第2—7大题），每大题15分，考生从6道大题中选4题，总计60分。这里注意的是：6道大题中选4题不是随便选的，这与考生申请的专业有关系。选题规则如下：

B、Mathematics & Computer Science applicants should attempt questions 1,2,3,5,6

四、MAT考试时间？考试报名截止时间？考试时长？

MAT考试在每年11月初进行（一般是11月5日左右，在中国要考虑时差），整个考试总时间为2小时30分钟；MAT考试的报名截止时间是：15th October, 5pm BST（英国标准时间）。

五、MAT考试注意事项？

A、与考A-LEVEL不同，MAT考试不允许使用计算器，但允许使用公式表和字典。

B、答案必须写在指定的空白处才会批卷评分，在非指定处无效。
